My review is of the 70.3 Tri. Whoah, it was tough. The swim was well thought out and done in heats (not as likely to get kicked in the face). The bike let you know that you are right on the edge of the Poconos, long grades, some shorter steeper grades. Run is at least half trail in the woods and was forgiving considering the hellacious bike.

I absolutely loved this race. The swim was great, pretty much just a straight shot with a little turning at the end. The bike was unbelievable, up and down on some crazy hills that really challenged. The trail run was perfect, going through the woods was a blast and so much easier on your body. They had plenty of water stops along the run and were offering a good mixture of sports drink, water, and coke. I will definitely do it again next year.

I thought Black Bear was a pure rush of adrenaline. Riding down those mountains you really fly. The aid stations could have been a little more frequent on the bike so bring an extra bottle.

Not the best triathlon in the area. Had to run a long distance from the water to the transition area, through rocks and pine cones; very unpleasant. The bike course was incredibly hilly; extremely challenging. The run through the woods was nice.

This race may be difficult but the scenery totally makes up for it. For as many up hills are there are on Black Bear there are just as many down hills. I had fun doing this race! Don't forget a spare set of shoes for T1!

This race was a bear.. literally. The swim was enjoyable from there it went totally down hill. After exiting the water you run through a pinecone graveyard (in bare feet mind you) to T1. The bike was listed as rolling hills with some climbs however I felt like it was climbing Everest on my 10 speed. The run was even worse as a trail run turned into a gallop through the woods. Needless to say i was not prepared. Scenery was great.
